The Russell Davies Show - BBC Radio 2: Sunday 30th May 9-10pm (GMT)

Posted on 27 March 2010

Sam Lemann and Hetty Kate's version of Ain't Doin' Bad Doin' Nothin' the lazy song (from their album 'A Late Brunch on Irwell Street') has been included in the programming for a very special radio show this sunday on BBC Radio 2!

You're able to listen in online, on digital and on 88-91FM in the UK. Visit The Russell Davies Show by clicking here.

About this weeks show: On Sunday 30th May, Russell Davies is offering a cautious welcome to summer via a famous Nat King Cole song - prompting an exploration of laziness as a song-topic: We hear a rare Joe Venuti piece, more familiar ones by Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael and Irving Berlin. Plus, Russell discovers a curiosity: that Will Hudson's Moonglow was based on Duke Ellington's Lazy Rhapsody. There are further diversions: a new release by Joyce Breach and a memory of pianist Dave McKenna with Marty Elkins, before Russell pays a fuller tribute than was previously possible to the late Lena Horne.

A Late Brunch on Irwell Street is available for download via ITunes or through the shop on this site.

This 10 piece "Little big band" has a style and look reminiscent of the Golden Age of Ellington, Basie and Goodman from the "wall of horns" sound right down to the Hollywood style, luminescent clam-shell stands.
